The ARM project was represented at this year’s International Studies Association annual conference in Chicago. Pauline Lemaire presented “Conceptualizing information suppression”, co-authored with scientific coordinator Lovise Aalen. The paper further develops the definition of information suppression that was proposed in the project’s first policy brief, as well as proposing a method to identify and organise cases of information suppression and be able to better combat foreign information manipulation and interference.

This was one of two panels on FIMI organised by the Deconspirator project, and included participation from ADAC.io. Both panels led to fruitful discussions on FIMI operations and their impact on democracy. A number of other panels covered other aspects of disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation, including studies of specific disinformation campaigns, analyses of ongoing theoretical debates, and studies looking into the involvement of businesses. This only further highlighted just how dynamic these scientific fields are.
We were thrilled to be able to contribute and look forward to publishing the work presented at the conference.
